For many of us, choosing a new foundation shade is up there with finding the perfect pair of bathers. It's stressful. It's sometimes undertaken with an over enthusiastic sales assistant, coupled with harsh lighting that highlights all of our perceived flaws. Otherwise it's done online, late at night when we're tired.

Find Your Perfect Lancome Foundation Shade
Our first bit of advice is to love the skin you're in and try not fight your skin's natural undertones. If you have a warm complexion, choose a shade that has yellow undertones. If your complexion is cool, a foundation with pink undertones will suit you best.
1. Find your Skin Tone Intensity
Most people fit into one of four categories with their skin tone intensity. These are:
Fair to Light - You have porcelain or pale skin with warm undertones. You burn easily.
Light to Medium - You may be pale in winter but usually tan in the sun. You have warm golden undertones.
Medium to Tan - You tan easily and may have olive skin.
Tan to Dark - The deepest range of skin tones
2. Select your Undertone
Basically, an undertone is the colour tone underneath the surface colour of your skin. Unlike your skin tone, which can tan, your undertone will stay the same. The colour underneath your skin's surface will affect the way the foundation will appear on top of your skin.
It takes a little effort to identify your undertone. The best way to do this is to look at the skin on the inside of your wrist. Here are our tips on how to figure this out your undertone.
- Cool - your veins look purple-ish and your skin has a slight pink or red appearance
- Warm - your veins looks green and your skin has a slight yellow or peach appearance
- Neutral - your veins are blue
3. Find your Foundation Shade
The best foundation is the one that looks like the best version of your natural complexion. It leaves you with a gorgeous and natural looking finish.
