The Secret To Youthful Skin - La Roche-Posay Review
In the spirit of full disclosure, I am a complete and utter Francophile.
I am also a pharmacist.
So, I guess that it is no surprise that as a pharmacist who loves France, I also absolutely love French pharmacy skin care brands, such as La Roche Posay.
My first encounter with La Roche-Posay was as a 20-something pharmacist in Paris, long before Kiana Beauty was even a twinkle in my eye.
I entered a quaint Pharmacie looking like a typical Australian tourist (read - wearing white birkenstocks, it was the mid-2000s, after all), looking for sunburn cream. I struck up a conversation with an impossibly chic and slightly aloof Parisian pharmacist.
She berated me for damaging my skin with sunburn, sold me the aloe vera gel and introduced me to the best sunscreen for face - La Roche Posay, which is a dermatologist-tested and endorsed skin care brand that is wonderful for all skin types, particularly sensitive skin.

After a lengthy discussion, I learnt that in France, skin care is highly revered and is considered a preventative measure in protecting one of your most valuable assets - your skin.
The Pharmacy that convinced me to use La Roche-Posay
Needless to say, I also walked out of this pharmacy with an entirely new La Roche-Posay skin care regime too, and a greater appreciation of my own skin.
In France, skin care rituals are handed down from generation to generation, with French teens being guided through the process by their maman.
While I'm not your maman, I do highly regard skincare and know that persistent use of good skin care products will allow you to enjoy beautiful skin in the years to come.
Here are my top 5 favourite La Roche-Posay Australia skin care products that I personally love to use on myself, on my family and recommend to others as a pharmacist.
Sunscreen is skin care!
It is one of the best skin care products you can use on your face and body. The best sunscreens for face will not only protect your skin from damage caused by UVA/UVB but also contain antioxidants which protect your skin from damage caused by free radicals.
The small commitment of wearing sunscreen every day will keep your skin looking its best possible self in years to come.
La Roche-Posay takes sunscreen very seriously. Their range of sunscreens are dermatologist and ophthalmologist endorsed and tested for sensitive skin.
You may be wondering, which La Roche Posay sunscreen should I use?
Well, let me help you with the following La Roche Posay sunscreen review.
The Best Sunscreens For Face
In my opinion, this is the best available sunscreen for the face.
It's ultra-lightweight and instantly sinks into the skin without leaving any sheen or white residue.
It also sits beautifully under makeup and is suitable for all skin types.
With SPF 50+, it provides very high UVA/UVB protection and is one of the best anti-aging skin care products you can possibly use.
The Best Sunscreen For Oily Skin
Wondering which La Roche Posay sunscreen is best for oily skin ?
This sunscreen is brilliant for taking down shine while providing you with very broad spectrum protection.
It is non-greasy and will mattify areas with excess oil.
It is lightweight and instantly sinks into the skin, without blocking pores.
This sunscreen is ideal for people with sensitive, oily and acne-prone skin and can be worn under makeup for the win.
The Best Baby Sunscreen
As a mum and a pharmacist, I understand how sensitive children's skin is.
I also understand how difficult it is to apply sunscreen effectively to wriggly kids. This sunscreen is a light gel, and goes on so easily, which allows you to work quickly with wriggly kids.
It does not leave a greasy or sticky finish, or any white marks when it is applied to wet or dry skin.
It gives me great reassurance that this best baby sunscreen is tested by dermatologists and paediatricians and that it can be used on the entire family so that you don't need to lug around several sunscreens, leaving room for the bucket and spade.
2. Tinted BB Cream
I just love this multitasking tinted BB cream and I think you will too.
I've tried and tested this product on holidays and on the days where I'm doing the school run and I love the results.
Following is my La Roche Posay BB cream review - you can thank me later.
This tinted BB cream has won me over for several reasons.
It contains SPF50+ which I love because it protects my skin very effectively from UVA/UVB causing premature ageing and sun damage.
Despite containing sunscreen, it absorbs into my skin really easily without leaving a sheen.
It evens out my complexion by providing a tinted finish that adapts to my own skin tone. How amazing is that?!
This bb cream not only leaves me with luminous, even skin, but it also gives my normally dry skin some much needed moisture too, all while providing very high SPF protection.
It is basically a super awesome tinted moisturiser with anti-aging/skin protective benefits.
The only thing it doesn't do is play kick to kick with my son.
3. B5 Serum
After years of trial and error in my search for which is the best hyaluronic acid serum, I have settled on this one, so I feel well qualified to write this La Roche Posay hyalu b5 serum review.
"What does b5 serum do for skin?" I hear you ask.
B5 is a type of hyaluronic acid, which along with madecasside (another hyaluronic acid) in this serum, helps to dramatically boost moisture levels as well as re-plump and repair the skin.
If, like me, you wake up each day with skin that looks dull and less elastic, then you will love this serum.
It is powerfully hydrating and absorbs in quickly. The skin immediately looks more supple, re-plumped and renewed and as a result of this, wrinkles and fine lines also look reduced.
What a great way to start the day, followed by a steaming hot coffee.
4. Vitamin C
Great skin starts with two vital ingredients. First and foremost, it requires great eating habits, that is, a diet rich in wholefoods to nourish your skin from the inside out.
The second ingredient, is great skin care, to nourish your skin from the outside in.
It's no secret that I love a good serum. Throughout the year I switch up the serums in my skin care routine to address specific skin concerns as they arise.
Doing this allows me to achieve my best possible skin, which in turn means that I can go makeup-free or wear just a tinted moisturiser for barely there coverage in the warmer months.
With the festive season just behind us, I'm feeling that my complexion needs a little brightening and extra help to achieve a smoother texture. I've had late nights, indulged in some Christmas cheer following our prolonged lockdown in Melbourne and I'm also guilty of not double cleansing my skin before bed.
I have recently added the La Roche-Posay Vitamin C serum to my skin care and I'm loving the results.
It contains 10% of pure Vitamin C (don't use anything with a lower concentration than this) which in my opinion is the perfect amount of Vitamin C as it is effective at restoring radiance in skin without causing any irritation.
The La Roche Posay Vitamin C ingredients in this serum also includes salicylic acid which helps to remove dead skin cells and hence improves irregular texture as well as hyaluronic acid which boosts moisture in the skin.
With continued use of the La Roche Posay Vitamin C serum, my skin looks more radiant and plumper, but also smoother.
In this La Roche Posay Vitamin C review, it may sound as though I have become obsessed with the benefits of this serum. Well, I have.
Did you know that Vitamin C is also a powerful antioxidant which protects the skin from environmental damage? Anything that helps to slooooow down the visible signs of ageing (e.g. fine lines and wrinkles) is a big win for me.
This serum is lightweight, and quickly and easily absorbs into the skin, which means that it won't ball under moisturiser or makeup.
Don't forget to wear La Roche Posay sunscreen during the day if you're using Vitamin C in your skin care as this combination packs a powerful punch in protecting your skin.
5. Tinted Moisturizer for Oily Skin
Ok, so I don't actually have oily skin, but my bestie does. She has spent a good part of her life fighting it, but will also look youthful for many years to come because of it.
I bought her a tube of La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo to try and she has since become obsessed with it. I told her she'd be doing the oily-skinned sisterhood a disservice if she kept this product to herself.
Sophia's La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo review:
"Oily skin can be really annoying and requires some effort in order to manage the shine and to reduce the occurrence of breakouts. There are times when I just don't want to wear a full face of makeup, but I do want a teeny bit of coverage.
I must admit, that I was initially a sceptic as I have tried many a tinted moisturiser for oily skin and have usually been left disappointed as they the mattifying effect doesn't last long or they don't do anything about the redness on my chin.
The La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo surpassed my expectations.
Firstly, it is super lightweight and quick absorbing and doesn't leave any sticky or oily residue on the skin. As someone who hates the feeling of greasy skin, this is a big win.
I found that it gave my skin sheer coverage and a matte finish that didn't look mask-like. It also calmed the redness of my skin.
I applied this tinted moisturiser in the morning and it managed to keep the oiliness at bay through out the day without drying out my skin, blocking my pores or causing acne breakouts.
I would highly recommend this tinted moisturiser to others and hope that this La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo review helps out my oily-skinned comrades."
