Mum With Wings
Kiana Beauty catches up with super mum and wonderful human @mumwithwings to discuss travel, living in iso and experiencing other cultures through our senses.
KB: With a career as an international flight attendant and borders now closed, a re-deployment to work at Woolworths, having two children learning from home plus all the challenges that iso and family life bring, how are you and your family going?
MWW: What is going on in the world right now is so much bigger than any of us. I am honestly just so grateful for good health and the opportunity to really ground and drop into my local community right now. My kids are embracing remote learning and my husband has adjusted to working from home.
My role at Woolworths is not so different from my role at QANTAS. It doesn't matter if it is boarding the first-class cabin or handing out baskets in the local supermarket, it's all human connection and I know the power of it.
KB: What advice would you give to other mums about getting through this difficult time?
MWW: Be kind to yourself. Like we say on the aircraft, "Fit your own oxygen mask first before helping others."
Last year I completed my yoga teacher training and although I am not working in that field. I really strive to live the 'yogic' values on and off the mat. The benefits of breathing, grounding and self-love are so powerful.
KB: If you could take your own mum anywhere in the world, where would you go?
MWW: Sri Lanka. My mum was born there and I feel a deep connection to the land, people, food and culture. It's a magical island. It was the first place I visited overseas when I was 7 years old and more recently I've visited with my husband and children.
We love Galle and Marissa, the Tea country is amazing too. Definitely my favourite place.
KB: What's one of your favourite memories of travelling with your family?
MWW: We did a trip to Europe when my son was 6 months and my daughter was 3 years old. My baby snuggled into the carrier on my chest and my daughter absorbed it all on foot or in a stroller or on her dad's shoulders.
Magical memories. We went to London, Amsterdam and Paris that trip.
KB: You've travelled extensively, but where is somewhere that has surprised you?
MWW: I think I was surprised at how beautiful the beaches just outside of Amsterdam were. Not what I imagined. Would highly recommend.
KB: It looks like domestic travel restrictions might ease before international ones and we are lucky to live in such a beautiful country. Where are some places in Australia that you'd recommend?
MWW: I'm very patriotic. The Mornington Peninsula is my home and would be my first suggestion. Australia is so diverse. Darwin is magical. The sunset there was like nothing else. Tasmania is so pristine. Earlier this year, I took my kids up to the NSW central coast and that was so nice too.
I've spent a bit of time in Perth - the Margaret River is stunning. Port Douglas. I can't pick! So many great places withing Australia to explore.
Thank you so much Jade for sharing some travel memories and family advice with us. We can't wait to resume travelling once things are safer. Please follow Jade's Instagram account @mumwithwings to read all about her and her family's adventures, both in Australia and overseas.
