Sensitive skin can be really frustrating to deal with.
This is one of the most common skin care complaints that I hear as a pharmacist, from both men and women.
Sensitive skin is a term that describes skin that is easily irritated and has a reduced tolerance to environmental aspects, (sun, wind, cold weather) or to cosmetics, skin care products or fragrances.
This topical irritation usually presents as stinging and itching and more visibly as redness, dryness, scaling and peeling.
Sensitivity is more than skin deep. If persistent, it can be due to an underlying medical condition that is best discussed with your doctor.
On the other hand you may not have senstitve skin however, your face mask may be causing "MASKNE"- a term used to describe face mask acne breakouts.
But I never breakout, why is this occurring?
Your face mask is causing irritation to your skin by either physically rubbing against the skin, which can damage the skin barrier or added moisture from breathing, talking or sweating has created the perfect environment for breakouts to occur. 😷⠀
Last week we caught up with Avene expert Coco, who shared with us her skincare routine to prevent the dreaded Maskne.
Step 2. Hydrate the skin with our Avene Skin Recovery Cream for long-lasting protection allowing the skin to recover and reduce reactivity
Step 3. Spot treat any blemishes with our Avene Cleanance Comedomed
Step 4. Apply a restorative barrier cream to help protect against mask friction like the SOS skin saviour Avene Cicalfate skin recovery cream which does double duty to protect and restore the skin barrier.
As a pharmacist, the best advice I can give you is to be really selective with what you put on your skin. Stick with products that are gentle on the skin and fragrance-free.
Here are my top 5 recommendations for the best skin care for sensitive skin. Including a section on the best products for eczema.

Does your skin sometimes feel tight or hot, even when it's not 35 degrees?
Does your skin feel itchy? Does your skin easily turn red or flush, even when you haven't been served by that charming and ridiculously good-looking barista at your local cafe?
If you answered yes to any or all of the above questions, you probably have sensitive skin.
To put it in simple terms, sensitive skin reacts when it shouldn't.
These reactions can vary in type and degree of severity, but they're definitely unwanted!
If you have sensitive skin, you should try and identify triggers which cause your skin to flare up and avoid them.

Jojoba is naturally rich in vitamins A, D and E, omega 6 and 9 and antioxidants.
Not only does it help to lock in moisture, it will also carry these skin healing nutrients to the deepest layers of your skin, improving the appearance of your skin dramatically!
